Writer Georgi Gospodinov received the Prix Konstantin Katzarov awarded by the Konstantin and Zinovia Katzarovi Foundation here on Wednesday night, the Bulgarian-Swiss Association for Culture, Traditions and Education Kanatitza said on Facebook on Thursday. The award was presented to Gospodinov for his novel Time Shelter and for spreading the Bulgarian culture around the world.

At the ceremony, Gospodinov said: "Everyone is alone in their journey, especially in sleep and in death. But it matters who will hold your hand during this journey. Change the desert. Every day, every hour, a little at a time. May everyone change it in the sphere in which they work and live".

Prof. Katzarov settled in Switzerland in 1956 but remained invariably linked to his homeland Bulgaria. In 1969 he founded a foundation at the University of Geneva, which bears his name and that of his wife. The foundation's mission is to grant scholarships to Bulgarian researchers and students who wish to study in Switzerland, as well as to support initiatives related to strengthening ties between Bulgaria and Switzerland.
