Grigor Dimitrov, Bulgaria’s highest ranked tennis player, qualified Friday for the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva, winning his semi-final match against world no. 9 Taylor Fritz by 3-6 7-5 7-6(2). Thus, Dimitrov reached his first ATP Final since 2018 when he lost to Roger Federer in Rotterdam.

The result on Friday meant that the Bulgarian scored his first win against a top 10 opponent since November 2022, when he got the better of Andrey Rublev (then No. 8 in the world) in the second round of the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna.

"It turned out to be a crazy match. We spent a lot of time on the court. I'm very happy with my performance. I feel great. I took another step forward. I came here with the goal to go as far as possible and I'm happy to be in the final. I hope to keep it up," the Bulgarian said in his on-court interview.

Dimitrov will meet the winner of the match between world No.27 Alexander Zverev and world No.54 Nikolas Jarry, as the two meet later on Friday. Both players have positive head-to-head balance against the Bulgarian - Zverev leads 3-1 in their matches so far, Jarry has won in their only meeting.

The last of Dimitrov's eight ATP titles was won in 2017 – a season in which he triumphed in four tournaments and reached his career-high ranking of No.3 in the world. In the 2017 season he won the titles in Brisbane, Sofia, Cincinnati and his biggest trophy at Nitto ATP Finals in London.

The win against Fritz guarantees Grigor Dimitrov's return in the top 30 of the ATP rankings.
