A rare composition for viola and one of the most treasured spiritual works of late Romantic music will be performed on April 16 in the Bulgaria Concert Hall, the Sofia Philharmonic said.

The concert will be conducted by Ni Fan.

The soloist is Sarah McElravy, a violist with an international career across Europe, North America, and Asia. Her sound and emotional depth have established her as one of the most compelling soloists and chamber musicians of her generation.

Over the past decade, she has performed with orchestras across Europe, Asia, and North America, including the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Hanover State Symphony Orchestra, the Graz Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Naples Philharmonic, the Russian National Orchestra, and the chamber ensemble of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician, she has been a member of the renowned Artemis String Quartet, and her solo discography has received critical acclaim for the “depth and poetic intelligence” of her interpretations.

Sarah McElravy is married to violinist and conductor Julian Rachlin, who recently performed in Sofia.

The programme includes Concert Rhapsody for Viola and Orchestra by Bohuslav Martinu and Requiem by Gabriel Faure. The performance features soloists Elena Mehandzhiyska and Caner Akgun, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Philharmonic Choir.
