Exhibition Exploring Japan's Path towards Bulgarian Reader Opens in Sofia

The exhibition The Path of Japan towards the Bulgarian Reader opened at the Central University Library of St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia on Wednesday, the university's press centre reported.

The exhibition is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Japanese Studies programme at Sofia University. The anniversary was marked in October 2025 with an international conference, titled Bulgarian Japanology in a Changing World: 35 years of Japanese Studies at Sofia University.

Some of the first publications by Bulgarians on Japan, selected works and translations by faculty members of the department, as well as research papers and translations by students and alumni will be presented in the halls of the Central Library. The exhibition also presents the history of the programme from its establishment to the present day.

Central Library Director Assoc. Prof. Bilyana Yavrukova, along with the Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Prof. Gergana Petkova, and Assoc. Prof. Vyara Nikolova, Head of the Japanese Studies Department, unveiled the exhibition.
