A multidisciplinary exhibition at the Serdica Art Gallery in Sofia will feature textile panels that respond to touch and activate various soundscapes, from natural noises to industrial rhythms and unexpected acoustic forms. Every gesture alters the environment, turning the viewer into a participant. The show, dubbed Hesitation, is a project of artists Maria Minkova and Anatoli Vanchev and will be held between March 24 and April 11.

The exhibits combine textiles, plexiglass, stone and electronics. The semi-transparent surfaces act as filters of reality, while the stones introduce a counterpoint of mass, time and stillness. Between them appears a distinctive graphic code of lines and dashes, a visual language of vibrations that translates the invisible into imagery, the Serdica Gallery said.

Maria Minkova is a Sofia-based visual artist. She graduated from the National School of Fine Arts, specializing in textiles, and from the National Academy of Arts, specializing in mural painting. She works with spatial compositions and assemblage, exploring the interaction between material, environment and viewer. Her work has been selected for Artforum’s Critic’s Pick.
