Artists from nine countries will take part in Dance Frame Fest in Sofia from March 13 to 17, the organizers of the second edition of the international contemporary dance festival, Dance Frame Collective, said on Monday.

According to them, the festival’s mission is to create an accessible environment for audiences in which contemporary dance is experienced not as abstract and difficult art, but as a living invitation to dialogue, emotion, and encounters with new artistic ideas.

The festival programme includes nine contemporary dance performances, which will be presented at Derida Stage. The programme features Amalgamate (Anton Mladenov, Bulgaria), Ki (Ki Collective, Poland), and Rakke (Patricia George and Louis Thuriot, Belgium). On March 16, audiences will see Hunt of Wolves (United States), Solus (Rebecca Hoback), and Syndrome of the Absent-Minded and Rooms of Consciousness (both by Head Under Water Dance Company with choreographer Elena Marinova, Bulgaria), Das Unheimliche (CollettivoDieci, Italy) and Hugs (France, Austria, Germany).

The festival will also feature ten dance workshops led by international artists and the hosts from Head Under Water Dance Company. New to the programme this year is the Dance Frame Writing Academy, an educational initiative led by Bulgarian choreographer and director Kosta Karakashyan. The programme gives participants the opportunity to explore the field of dance criticism by developing skills in observation, analysis, and the creation of texts and audiovisual materials related to contemporary dance.
