The Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) is hosting the Annual Conference of the Public Broadcasters International (PBI). The forum, which runs until October 22, is being held in Sofia for the first time, BNR announced.
At the official opening of the conference Tuesday, participants will include the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, BNR Director General Milen Mitev, and the Secretary General of the Public Broadcasters International, David Jordan.
According to BNR, leaders and representatives of public radio and television broadcasters from 24 countries across five continents will take part in the event.
The year’s conference is mottoed "Making the Case for Public Service Broadcasters”” Participants will discuss fundamental issues such as freedom of speech, independence, crises, and the financing of public media, as well as current challenges including attracting younger audiences, negotiations with trade unions, and the United States under Donald Trump.
“The Public Broadcasters International continues to be a unique platform for sharing insights, tackling challenges, and reaffirming our shared commitment to the values of public interest,” said BNR Director General Milen Mitev. “We want to emphasize the strength and importance of public media in an era of rapid change and growing uncertainty, to inspire meaningful conversations, and to foster new collaborations,” he added.
