The current vote in Pazardzhik took place after the Supreme Administrative Court annulled the municipal council elections held on October 29, 2023. This decision was made on July 17. At that time, the mayoral election was won by Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria (CC–DB) candidate Petar Kulenski.

Until the annulment of the municipal council elections, Kulenski governed with an unstable and shifting majority in the council, where CC–DB had only four councillors.

Following the court’s decision, the previous municipal council was reinstated - a body dominated by the group around former mayor Todor Popov.
