Addressing a meeting with GERB’s regional structures in Varna Region on Friday, Prime Minister and GERB member Rosen Zhelyazkov said that the government is working to implement all national priorities set out in its governance programme. “Economic and financial stability, Bulgaria’s accession to the euro area, and higher incomes for citizens are among our key tasks. We will not give in to provocations despite the opposition’s attempts to attack us with various propaganda scandals and falsifications,” Zhelyazkov said, as quoted by GERB in a press release.

The meeting was attended by mayors, municipal councillors, party members and supporters from all municipal organizations in the region, as well as Regional Coordinator Ivan Portnih.

Zhelyazkov argued that contrary to political claims, government policy over the past year has led to tangible income growth. He pointed out that since the beginning of 2025, the government has paid BGN 3.7 billion more in wages, pensions and social benefits compared to 2024. “The average salary in the country has risen by 11.6%, and the minimum wage by 15.4%, significantly outpacing inflation of 3.6%,” the Prime Minister said.

Zhelyazkov stressed that Bulgaria needs stability and security more than ever. He noted that the parliamentary majority was difficult to form and is maintained through many compromises, as the coalition partners are diverse. “However, we are united in our understanding that the country can no longer be thrown into an election spiral leading to instability in all areas of public and political life,” he commented.

On the topic of euro area accession, Zhelyazkov reaffirmed that joining the eurozone is a national goal supported by the governing coalition. “The government will not allow speculative price increases, and the currency changeover will take place in full compliance with all rules and in the best interest of citizens,” he said.
