Inflatable boats likely intended for human trafficking were discovered by customs officials in Razgrad, the press centre of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
The customs officers discovered five inflatable boats with a size of eight by three metres in a truck driven by a 60-year-old man. The boats were adapted for transporting people and were prepared for export to Germany. Since engines and inflatable boats with larger volumes are under increased control and included in a risk profile, the items were detained at the Customs Office in Razgrad. The driver of the truck was from Razgrad and claimed he did not know what he was transporting.
The Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry added that the owners of the goods have a deadline to submit documents about their origin and transport. Otherwise, they will be confiscated.
