A media day of the European Spartan Exercise 2025 (ESE 25) at the Bezmer air base in Southern Bulgaria will take place on Thursday, the Ministry of Defence said. Air force units from Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Spain and Bulgaria will perform tasks under an agreement among EU Member States operating C-27J aircraft. In addition to the four Spartan, operators of Casa C-295 from Spain will also take part in the exercise.

In ESE 2025, tactical landing maneuvers are performed, low-altitude and extremely low-altitude flights over mountainous terrain to overcome the air defense systems of a simulated enemy, planning and execution of tactical landing maneuvers on concrete and dirt runways, and execution of tasks for the transport and landing of troops and cargo.

Tasks related to aeromedical evacuation, planning and execution of search and rescue operations, escorting tactical air transport groups, and improving Air Force procedures for comprehensive logistical support and host nation support.

The flight training event kicked off in Bezmer on September 23. The aim is to improve interoperability and optimize resources. “The main purpose is to learn to work together, following the same rules, planning, organizing and conducting the flights. There will be low flying, mountain region flying, tactical landing approaches, troops and cargo landing,” Colonel Lazarin Lazrov, commander of the exercise said.
