Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva said in a press release Monday that she met with the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States in Bulgaria, H. Martin McDowell and presented the priorities of her work.

“I strive to be proactive and persistent, and I rely on good cooperation with the National Assembly and on dialogue with the executive and local authorities in order to successfully address people’s problems," Delcheva said.

She emphasized that the Ombudsman institution’s agenda is determined by the citizens, but protecting against violations and unlawful infringements of their rights is the main focus of the institution’s activities.

"I give voice to problems, and the focus of my work is on vulnerable groups in society – the elderly, child protection, especially children in conflict with the law, the socially disadvantaged, and people with disabilities," Delcheva added.
