National Diploma honorary distinctions were given to excellent students from the class of 2025 during a ceremony held at the National Archaeological Museum here on Friday. The awards were presented by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev.
The National Diploma distinction is awarded every year to graduates with an excellent grade of 6.00 in all school subjects listed in their secondary education diploma, as well as in the state matriculation exams, and for demonstrated abilities in the fields of science, technology, arts, and sports. The award is a national recognition of Bulgarian high school students' achievements. Among the official guests at the ceremony were representatives of trade union and employer organizations, school principals, and teachers.
In his speech, Valchev said he was pleased that more and more excellent students are choosing to continue their education in Bulgaria. He expressed confidence that this trend would continue in the future.
Zhelyazkov echoed this statement saying that he was happy that an increasing number of people are opting to continue their education at Bulgarian universities.
Taking questions from the media after the ceremony, Valchev said he will propose a national programme called "I Choose to Study in Bulgaria" to the best students. "In this way, holders of national diplomas, winners of international Olympiads and prestigious competitions with sufficiently motivating scholarships will be able to receive free education so that they can stay in Bulgaria to study," the Minister explained.
