A Spartan military transport aircraft carrying the remains of Bulgarian medieval ruler Tsar Samuel landed at Sofia Airport Saturday. The aircraft was escorted by two pairs of MiG-29 and F-16 fighter jets.
The casket with the ruler's remains were handed over to Bulgaria by Greece earlier in the day.
A guard of honour was waiting for a red-carpet ceremony.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev, Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov and Culture Minister Evtim Miloshev disembarked from the military transport aircraft.
From the airport to Knyaz Alexander I Square, the remains of Tsar Samuel will be carried by Bulgarian Armed Forces personnel. They will be placed on a military truck, which will be escorted by military police, specialized Desert Cat police vehicles and motorcycles.
A state ceremony titled Bulgaria Welcomes Tsar Samuel, will take place in the square, after which the remains will be carried in a procession to St Sophia Basilica, where they will be placed in a specially prepared sarcophagus. A memorial service will be held.
