President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the President's press office said.
The Bulgarian head of State emphasized the importance of global efforts to counter terrorism, while expressing concern about the escalation of tension in the Middle East following the Israeli air strike on the Qatari capital, Doha. "Hundreds of our compatriots live and work in the Qatari capital," the statement said.
President Radev expressed his hope for the earliest possible cessation of military operations in the Middle East and for the territorial scope of the conflict, which threatens international peace and security, not to be allowed to expand.
The Bulgarian head of State once again expressed his gratitude for the personal commitment of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the release of the captain and first mate of the ship Galaxy Leader.
