“We, the constitutional judges, supreme court judges, and the judges of the Court of Justice of the European Union, are called to be guardians and interpreters of the collective consciousness and of the rule of law in Europe, because it is to us that the peoples of Europe have entrusted the responsibility to be the supreme defenders of law, human rights, and the very foundations of constitutional democracy,” said Constitutional Court President Pavlina Panova in her address at the opening of the international conference EUnited in Diversity III, organized in Sofia by the Constitutional Court of Bulgaria and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The forum, now in its third edition and held every two years, brings together representatives of jurisdictions from 21 EU Member States. The main theme of this year’s event is “The Role of Constitutional Justice in the EU Common Legal Order.”
