President Rumen Radev reported here on Monday that a regular Secretary General will be named this week to replace the current acting Secretary General, Miroslav Rashkov. Radev was speaking to reporters at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Radev emphasized the importance of the secretary's role, as it represents "a very serious institution which has to carry out important, highly responsible tasks". He added: “There are a number of letters to which I have not received a response, a number of initiatives to which I have also not received any response. Whenever I attend certain events, all the ministers scatter, with a few exceptions.”

Radev said that for two months the government has been silent on his proposal about the head of the National Service for Protection, which he stated refutes the claims of urgency in appointing the heads of the security services. He added: “The ambassadors were finally agreed upon last week as a package, as it should be, but with compromises on my part, because I am still waiting for the proposals for key capitals such as Washington.” The head of State insisted that the trend of appointing temporary heads of embassies should not become the norm.

When asked about the hearings of the nominees for members of the Anti-Corruption Commission, the President said that he would like to wait until the entire cycle is complete and hear what Parliament has to say before he comments. He stated: “To the people who make the decisions and appoint these individuals it matters not what is said.”

The presidential press service announced last week that by the end of the month, Radev would announce his decision on the proposals made by the executive branch within the framework of the coordination procedure for appointments in the security services sector.

The President was visiting the Museum while it was hosting the temporary exhibitions One Head Higher and The Splendour of Hellenistic Gold: The Ruler of Sakar.
