site.btaCabinet: No State Property Sales under Government Programme

No sales are being carried out at present under the Programme for Exercising Rights over State-Owned Properties, as a number of government institutions and municipalities have expressed interest in acquiring properties deemed surplus to requirements, the Council of Ministers press service said on Wednesday.
In light of political speculation surrounding the Programme, the government will propose it for approval by the National Assembly. Additionally, the government will recommend that MPs adopt a resolution to suspend all property sales under the Programme until it has been formally approved by the National Assembly.
Earlier in the day, the Save Sofia group in the Sofia Municipal Council called on the cabinet to transfer state properties located in the capital from the surplus list appended to the Programme. They warned that “residents of Sofia are ready to protest if the government does not reconsider its decision to sell off state-owned properties in the capital.”
In its press release, the Council of Ministers emphasized that the Programme was adopted as a step towards responsible management of state property, aiming for predictability, transparency, and efficiency. Preparation has begun on an indicative list of state-owned properties no longer needed.
