Crop growers and livestock breeders from across Romania have announced a major national protest on September 15 outside the government building in Victoria Square in Bucharest, local media reported. The protest is aimed at the lack of state support, rising taxes and the financial burdens imposed on the country's agricultural sector.

The demonstrators plan to travel to the Romanian capital with their tractors, hay bales and even livestock. The organizers of the protest, to be held under the slogan "United we are, Romania", are calling on colleagues from all agricultural subsectors, as well as young people and pensioners, to join the action.

They are firmly opposed to ongoing cuts to financial support and increases in fees, taxes and levies. They are calling for immediate and concrete intervention by the Romanian authorities to save domestic production, stressing that farmers in the country no longer have the capacity to withstand the economic pressure.
