The wildfire near Balchik has been largely contained, but some smoldering hotspots remain, Chief Inspector Stelyan Stoychev, head of the Regional Fire Safety and Civil Protection Service, said on Wednesday.
The blaze broke out on Tuesday around noon near the iconic Balchik hillside letters, engulfing dry grass and pine forest. The fire spread through difficult-to-access terrain, and shifting winds complicated efforts to control it.
After a meeting of the operational headquarters Tuesday night, response teams remained on duty, and firefighting resumed early this morning.
There is no danger to the population or the nearby golf course. Fire crews from Balchik and Dobrich, personnel from the Balchik State Hunting Enterprise, military units, Energo-Pro teams, farmers, and volunteers joined the firefighting efforts.
