In an interview with Nova TV, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said that the government “is operating with the mindset of serving a full term because Bulgaria needs stability, it needs a regular government.”
Petkova said that the government has the ambition to deliver on key priorities essential to the country's development. “One of these priorities was our accession to the euro area, and we achieved that. Now, we face a very important next step: the smooth and fair introduction of the euro,” she added.
Asked what could bring down the Cabinet, Petkova said that this could happen if a coalition partner withdraws its support. She highlighted the efforts and compromises made by all political parties involved in forming the current coalition.
Commenting on Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria’s (CC–DB) plan to table a no-confidence motion in September, Petkova said that she is disappointed in both CC and DB. “At a time when Bulgaria has achieved one of its greatest successes - euro area membership - they are trying to destabilize the country with votes of no confidence,” she said. “We saw how they voted in the last no-confidence motion - alongside Vazrazhdane, Velichie, and MECh,” Petkova said.
Asked if there is political repression against CC, Petkova said that this is a matter for the relevant institutions, not the government. “What I can say for certain is that when there are indications of legal violations or other types of wrongdoing, there must be an appropriate response from the competent authorities,” she concluded.
