The Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) will support an upcoming no-confidence vote against the government over its failures in the environment and water sector, MP Hyusni Adem said during a parliamentary debate on the motion—the fourth no-confidence vote against the current cabinet.

“We are doing this in the name of the public interest,” Adem said, emphasizing that environmental issues must not be used as a tool for political propaganda.

To address the crisis, ARF proposed several measures for the Ministry of Environment and Water: developing a clear timetable for closing illegal landfills, updating secondary legislation, introducing independent external audits of the Regional Inspectorates of Environment and Water (RIEWs), and establishing a mechanism for citizen oversight and transparency in the implementation of environmental penalties.

According to Adem, Bulgaria is systematically violating its obligations under EU directives on water, waste, and air quality. “Many regions across the country—including both small and large municipalities—are suffering from water shortages, polluted water bodies, illegal dumpsites, and a lack of adequate state policy,” he noted.

"Instead of reforms and a clear vision, we are seeing chaotic actions, project delays, and an inability to absorb European funds specifically allocated for environmental policies and sustainable water resource management," said Adem.
