Bulgaria's Council of Ministers Wednesday adopted a decree to amend and supplement the Regulations for Application of the Investment Promotion Act. The revisions bring the Regulations into conformity with the Investment Promotion Act as last amended in March 2024 so as to transpose Regulation (EU) 2019/452 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 March 2019 establishing a framework for the screening of foreign direct investments into the Union. In this way, national legislation is harmonized with the EU acquis.

The European legislative experience in the area of foreign investments screening was tapped in drafting the amendments to the implementing regulations. A balanced approach was selected, reckoning with the interests of Bulgaria and the protection of its economic security, as well as with the interests of potential investors.

Other provisions in the amending instrument update the content of the regulations in line with the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria Act and with the Classification of Economic Activities (KID 2025).
