Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev, who took part in the General Assembly of the GERB Youth Organization here on Sunday, said that he believes that the vote of no confidence in the government will not succeed, because it aims to take Bulgaria out of the European context, in which the country has chosen to develop.

On June 27, the Vazrazhdane party tabled a no-confidence motion, this time over the government's failure in the area of fiscal policy.

Georgiev stated that the objectives and intentions of this motion do not seem to be particularly serious, given that the vote was submitted after dark, after working hours. He alleged that the sponsors themselves may be trying to hide “something that embarrasses them”. The Minister accused them of trying to sabotage Bulgaria's joining the eurozone, which would be very big national achievement.

The Minister said: "When it comes to democracy, to power to the people, the parties that won the elections have been standing for decades with the idea of Europe and integration into the European Union. The people have put their trust in such parties that they knew would deliver on this commitment."

Asked about the response to what is happening in Europe, Georgiev said that Bulgaria's European partners know that they have a strong and stable government behind them. He added: "It is working very hard to cover the deficits of the last four years, and the government is implementing many reforms and decisive steps on the way to Bulgaria being a strong state governed by the rule of law, respecting the European rules. Both the convergence report and the opinion of the European leaders confirm the fact that Bulgaria not only meets certain criteria, but they [convergence report and the opinion of the European leaders] give a general picture of where we are in terms of political, economic and financial stability."

Asked about what is happening in Continue the Change (CC), Georgiev said that there is a huge dissonance between the long made declarations by CC and the party's actions. According to Georgiev, this difference between words and actions is really disturbing, especially when it comes to pressure of like-minded people on like-minded people.
