MECh leader Radostin Vassilev commented on Kiril Petkov resigning s Co-chair of Continue the Change (CC) and as a member of Parliement, arguing that there is no way forward for the CC political project.
“We have now watched Kiril Petkov's press conference and I must tell you that this is the result of the betrayal of the hope of Bulgarian citizens,” he pointed out.
“No one is safe from corruption, no one is safe from having one of their MPs hacked or bought, but the consistent actions of Continue the Change since the recording that I revealed two years ago showed that, unfortunately, the genesis of this party is simply to replace one participant in the corruption model with another,” commented Radostin Vassilev.
“From now on, all leaders should not accept what is happening with mockery and satisfaction, but should make an assessment for themselves whether they are capable of creating a project, a party, a movement, a union of people that can survive against the mafia in a lasting, systematic and long-term way,” Vassilev argued.
He noted that Petkov fell victim to his unpreparedness, the lack of qualities to occupy certain positions and the fact that he had surrounded himself with his closest circle of “clientelists”. “Unfortunately, with his resignation, this political project ends, because it was created on the wings of his person and is concluding with his failure,” said Vassilev.
He indicated that he expects the other co-chair of Continue the Change, Assen Vassilev, to do the same as Petkov.
Vassilev stressed that all persons who are part of the leaked recording in the media, and are familiar with corrupt practices, should follow Petkov’s example. He noted that Petkov;s exit is in fact “worthy”” as he found the strength to escape political responsibility or political persecution.
