site.btaBulgaria Transitions to Electronic Employment Record Books

From June 1, 2025, employment record books in Bulgaria will become electronic. The National Social Security Institute (NOI) advises people to keep their existing paper employment books until retirement, as they remain valid for verifying employment history.

The electronic employment records will be maintained in the Employment Register managed by the National Revenue Agency (NRA). From this date, employment data will be recorded and stored only in digital form.

Employers have until June 1, 2026, to finalize paper record books by officially documenting and signing the length of service before returning them to employees.

Due to the transition, on May 30 and 31, 2025, there will be temporary interruptions in the NRA’s electronic portal related to contract notifications and authorizations.
