At the request of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, the court detained two Iraqi citizens who used false documents, the prosecution service said on Monday.

On April 30, at Terminal 2 of Sofia International Airport, the accused H.A. and A.A. knowingly used false official documents during a check carried out by an employee of the Sofia Airport Border Checkpoint. They presented visa stickers, which were made to appear to have been issued by the competent Bulgarian authorities.

Pre-trial proceedings are underway in the case under the Criminal Code, with a penalty of up to eight years of imprisonment.

By a prosecutor's decree, the two were detained for a period of up to 72 hours, and the supervising prosecutor has filed a request to detain the two in custody.

A panel of the Sofia District Court agreed with the prosecutor's arguments that the two could hide and commit another crime and approved their detention in custody.
