A public discussion titled “How to Save the Lev” was held on Friday in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture (NDK). The event was organized by the “Torch” Forum.

“By gathering here, we show that we are strong and do not agree with the repression. Whenever the people are strong, those in power get scared. We can be stronger than them,” said MEP Petar Volgin (Europe of Sovereign Nations Group/Vazrazhdane), addressing the audience.

Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kostadinov also addressed the crowd and called on them to gather for a protest on May 31.

“The currency board, which ended hyperinflation in Bulgaria, is working perfectly. Why fix something that isn’t broken? I’ve heard many arguments and comments about its removal. I find most of them to be superficial or troubling,” said economist Steve Hanke in a video address.

Journalist Nedyalko Nedyalkov called for the resignation of the Government and mass protests. According to him, the eurozone is a lie, like those about Ukraine, the Covid crisis, and the F-16 fighter jet. “The same producers are behind these lies,” he stated.

Earlier in the day, Vazrazhdane welcomed President Rumen Radev’s decision to petition the Constitutional Court against National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova’s decision to bar as inadmissible his proposal to the Assembly for a national referendum on the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria.

All seats in Hall 1 of NDK were filled. People who were not admitted due to lack of space gathered at the entrances.

The Sofia police announced that all necessary measures were taken to ensure public order and traffic safety around the NDK in connection with the event.
