An international exercise for flood management BG-EU MODEX 2025 will be held from May 12 to 15 at the Center for Professional Training of Rescuers in Montana, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior said on Monday.

The exercise will be implemented under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. More than 200 rescuers from seven countries are taking part in the exercise in Montana. They will train their response and cooperation in dealing with the consequences of a large-scale flood. Teams from Bulgaria, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Spain, North Macedonia and Slovenia will be on the ground, demonstrating pumping water with high-capacity pumps, water purification and drone operation. They will test their capabilities by focusing on effective coordination, achieving interoperability, maintaining self-sufficiency, sharing information, managing command structures and establishing robust communication systems.

The exercise scenario also envisages the participation of an international team of experts to coordinate assistance under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (RescEU).

General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection participates in a consortium for the organization of field exercises for Modules registered under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. This is the eighth time such an exercise has been held at the Centre for Professional Training of Rescuers in Montana. It was selected because of the excellent conditions and training ranges for simulating actions in case of floods, earthquakes, incidents with hazardous substances and road accidents, the Montana Police Department said.
