Customs officers seized undeclared EUR 128,050 in a truck during an inspection at Danube Bridge 2, near Vidin, Northwestern Bulgaria, on the border with Romania, the National Customs Agency reported Friday.
On Thursday night, customs officers pulled over for inspection a semi-trailer truck on its way from Denmark to Iraq, driven by a Turkish national. The documents provided declared that the truck was carrying secondhand textiles. The vehicle was selected for physical inspection after a risk analysis at the Customs Bureau in Vidin. During the inspection, at the base of the passenger seat in the cabin of the truck, the customs officers found four packages wrapped in black plastic, in which they discovered the undeclared euro notes. The banknotes were seized, the Customs Agency added.
The driver of the vehicle was charged by the District Prosecutor's Office - Vidin and detained for 72 hours. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, the Sofia Prosecutor's Office of Appeal said.
Since the beginning of 2025, this is the second time that undeclared currency has been detained at Danube Bridge 2 Vidin, according to the Customs Agency's website. At the beginning of February, EUR 140,000 were detained during an inspection of an inbound truck driven by a Turkish national.
