site.btaGovernment Approves Implementation of Road Safety Programme

The Council of Ministers has approved a programme for the implementation of road safety measures, the government press service said Thursday. There will be specific commitments, deadlines and responsible departments for each of the 43 measures that will be introduced at national level.
The activities include the implementation of joint specialized road inspections and strengthened control of overloaded trucks; establishing and imposing administrative penalties simultaneously; automated issuance and notification of road violations. The measures foresee improved technical control on roads with the greatest number of deaths and injuries, the urgent securing of 36 sections with a concentration of traffic accidents, and another 500 km of road sections with increased risk. Recordings of municipal and other state bodies’ cameras may be used as evidence for the issuing of administrative penalties. An increase in the requirements for the transportation of children and students is also among the measures to preserve the lives and health of adolescents. An electronic road traffic accident report will be introduced for accidents in which there is only material damage.
The implementation of the measures is distributed between 13 state institutions, including eight ministries and five agencies. Municipal and regional administrations in the country will also have a supporting role.
