On this date in Bulgarian history:

1895: A Macedonian Committee (also known as Supreme Macedonian-Adrianopolitan Committee) is established in Sofia as a legal organization of the Macedonian-Adrianopolitan societies in Bulgaria.

1911: The Bulgarian Literary Society (est. October 2, 1869) in Braila, Romania, is renamed Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, with Ivan Evstratiev Geshov as its first President.

1911: The metric system becomes effective in Bulgaria.

1945: The First Bulgarian Army wins a victory over Nazi troops at the Drava River during the Second World War (1939-1945).

1992: In Helsinki, Bulgaria signs the Convention on the Protection and Exploitation of Transboundary Rivers and International Lakes and the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents.

2006: The Bulgarian Embassy in Iraq reopens after being closed in March 2003 due to the hostilities in the country.
