Bulgaria's Ambassador Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski met with Sweden's Foreign Minister Tobias Billström in Stockholm on December 4, the Bulgarian Embassy said.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral cooperation. The Foreign Minister thanked Bulgaria for supporting Sweden's accession to NATO. Also, Bulgaria's comprehensive support for Ukraine was highly appreciated. Sweden's chief diplomat acknowledged Bulgaria's joining the Collaborative Procurement of Ammunition Project, part of the efforts of the Swedish EU Council Presidency, the Embassy said.
For her part, the ambassador thanked Sweden for supporting Bulgaria's accession to the border-free Schengen area.
In 2024, Bulgaria and Sweden celebrate the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In this context, Stoycheva-Etropolski and Billström discussed a possible exchange of visits at the level of foreign ministers and ways to deepen the partnership in security and defence, trade and investment, science, high technology, energy and the transition to clean energy. Bulgaria and Sweden joined the Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy by 2050 at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.
Ambassador Stoycheva-Etropolski highlighted the increased volume of two-way trade and the potential for stepping up Sweden's direct investments in Bulgaria.
