The invalid ballots in the October 29 elections totaled over half a million. A total of 2,713,979 people voted, Central Election Commission deputy chair and spokesperson Rossitsa Mateva said at a news briefing on Wednesday.

The exact number of invalid ballots was 554,525, which included:

  • 412,711 ballots for municipal councilors (down from 466,077 in the previous local elections in 2019);
  • 94,195 for municipality mayor (down from 128,204 in 2019);
  •  34,235 for mayoralty mayor (down from 39,199 in 2019); and
  • 13,384 for borough mayor (down from 26,636 in 2019).

Mateva said that based on the tally sheets, the number of people who voted on October 29 totaled 2,713,979 or 44,94% of the eligible voters. The turnout was 49.76% in the 2019 local elections.

A total of 2,683,606 people voted in the parliamentary elections in April 2023.
