The National Assembly will discuss a draft decision on providing additional military assistance to Ukraine. This will be the first item on Wednesday’s agenda, published on the website of Parliament.

The draft decision is sponsored by Boyko Borisov and Hristo Gadzhev from GERB-UDF, Hristo Ivanov, Ivaylo Mirchev and Kiril Petkov from CC-DB, and Delyan Peevski from MRF. The draft decision obliges the Council of Ministers to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine, which includes unserviceable 5V55R anti-aircraft guided missiles owned by the Ministry of Defence, and ammunition for automatic small arms that the Interior Ministry no longer needs.

In the explanatory memorandum to the draft decision, the sponsors state that Bulgaria will provide defective ammunition that can be used by the Ukrainian army. "Our country does not have the necessary capacity to repair this ammunition on its own. Their use by our army would create a serious risk to the lives of Bulgarian servicemen. Unlike Bulgaria, Ukraine has declared that it has the capacity to put such defective ammunition into use and that it would serve the Ukrainian army to counter Russian shelling of populated areas, which results in many civilian casualties," the draft decision states in its reasoning.

On Tuesday, BSP for Bulgaria objected to the proposed decision on aid to Ukraine.  Atanas Zafirov told journalists that this is another national betrayal and pointed out that they want the resignation of Defence Minister Todor Tagarev. Speaking to journalists yesterday ahead of an extraordinary session of the parliamentary defence committee, the minister explained that the proposal to provide additional military aid to Ukraine was not about anti-aircraft missile complexes.
