The third EPI-CATCH (Epigenetic mechanisms of crop adaptation to climate change - CA19125) International Conference, funded by the European Programme for Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), takes place from May 30 to June 1, 2023 at the Prof. Marin Drinov Hall at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia.

EPI-CATCH is a COST action with the aim of defining, developing generating and sharing new breaking knowledge and methodologies for the investigation of epigenetic mechanisms underlying plant adaptation to environmental stresses driven by climate change. Its goal is to create a pan-European framework for networking in this under-investigated research field of plant genetics. This relatively new scientific field is devoted to the study of heritable changes in gene activity induced by biochemical modifications of the DNA molecule and associated histone proteins, without altering the nucleotide sequence of the DNA. Heritable changes are an important prerequisite for lasting adaptive changes and survival of organisms in extreme conditions.

The 3rd EPI-CATCH Conference is an extraordinary occasion for researchers to disseminate, discuss, connect and update on the latest research in plant epigenetics, the organizers said. The conference will host sessions dealing with epigenetic responses to environmental stresses; epigenetic mechanisms driving stress memory, transgenerational effects, adaptation responses; methodological approaches for the study of epigenetic diversity and stress responses.

Management Committee meeting will take place at the end of the conference to coordinate the activities over the third year of the Action and resume other events (training schools, workshops, short-term scientific missions) organised by EPI-CATCH.

The conference will be held in a hybrid format, combining physical presence and online/remote participation.

Alongside representatives from many European countries, scientists from Japan, China, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, India and others will participate remotely. Participants from a total of 29 countries are registered for the event.
