"Personnel are quitting the Armed Forces in large numbers, incentives should be considered," Bulgarian Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov told journalists on Monday. He added that the additional incentives can be offered only through a new state budget, otherwise, the modernization in the military will grind to a halt.

"The procedure for the acquisition of armoured infantry vehicles is making fast progress, we are expecting a binding offer and hope to have a contract by the end of the year. This will be at least an added incentive and will attract enlistees," he said.

The Defence Minister, together with President Rumen Radev and the Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov, attended a tactical live-fire exercise Defensive Shield 2023.

"Once again we have proved that our service persons are capable to work with our partners, despite the difference in equipment. The exercise achieved its objectives of assembling a multifunctional battalion", Stoyanov pointed out.

Admiral Eftimov stressed the contribution of Bulgaria's military personnel and their expertise, willingness to share in training and knowledge of the necessary tactic and procedures.
