Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) prime minister designate Nikolay Denkov said on bTV that he has not interrupted the dialogue with Mariya Gabriel and he spoke with her on the phone on Sunday. He pointed out that changing the rotation of the proposed government between CC-DB and GERB-UDF, and having Mariya Gabriel (GERB-UDF) as prime minister for the first nine months, has not been discussed.
GERB-UDF and CC-DB were attempting to form a regular government on a rotating basis with the second exploratory mandate.
"The thaw should start from the point we have reached, I hope the negotiations will continue in the coming days," Denkov added.
On May 22, Gabriel and Denkov, told a news conference that after receiving the second-government-forming mandate, Continue the Change will propose a government on a rotational basis. Denkov will serve as prime minister first for nine months, and Gabriel will be deputy prime minister and foreign minister, then Gabriel will take over as prime minister for the next nine months, if the proposed rotational government is formed.
GERB-UDF said on Saturday that they are freezing the negotiations with CC-DB, after CC-DB breakaway CC-DB MP Radostin Vasilev released a recording which implies that there is an understanding to replace the heads of the special services and “clear the names with the embassy”.
Albeit having elements that need to be commented on, Denkov argued that the recording was largely interpreted incorrectly.
He explained that the subject of changes in services has been interpreted in a completely wrong way. "The meaning of what is said follows from the law. The purpose of this legal requirement is for service heads to have access to classified information that is provided by foreign services."
Denkov pointed out that this is a standard procedure that has always been done and will be done again, and means that the nominee for the position, in order to do their job, must have access to the appropriate levels of secrecy in partner services.
