The Director-General for Political Affairs at Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry Maya Dobreva and Lithuania's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Mantas Adomenas held political consultations here on Friday, Dobreva's Ministry said in a press release.

The sides discussed topical issues on NATO's agenda which are to be addressed at the NATO Summit in Vilnius on July 11 and 12, 2023.

During the conversation, an emphasis was laid on the need to strengthen the defence and deterrence potential of the Alliance on the Eastern flank and to provide Ukraine with political and practical support in response to the changed security environment and the growing risks in the Euro-Atlantic space.

The sides highlighted the ways of countering hybrid threats, including strategic communications and combating disinformation, and the united response within the EU and NATO. The Bulgarian officials were familiarized with good Lithuanian practices in this respect. The sides concurred on the need of close cooperation to enhance resilience in the context of current regional and global challenges, the press release said.

In April, the Bulgarian caretaker Cabinet adopted a decision on joining this country to the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats. Participation in the international, autonomous network-based organization, hosted by Finland and co-founded by the UK, Germany, the US, France, Poland, Sweden, Lithuania and Latvia, is open to all EU and NATO countries, and the number of Participating States has grown to 33 so far.
