At a news briefing here on Tuesday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov called on President Rumen Radev to immediately replace caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev. Borissov was commenting on Monday's shooting incident at the Bulgarian-Turkish border that left one Bulgarian border police officer dead.
The shooter remains unknown but earlier on Tuesday Demerdzhiev told reporters the perpetrators were illegal migrants.
Such a thing would have been impossible two years ago, Borissov also said, referring to the time his party was in power. Back then there was "zero migration", he added. The Interior Ministry leadership is extremely weak professionally, it has been idle for two years now, he added.
"We have information that on the Turkish side alerts have been submitted that their [migrant] smugglers are becoming ever more daring, there have been shootouts with the gendarmerie," the GERB leader noted.
