A Turkish Airlines airplane flying to Antalya was escorted Monday consecutively by Romanian, Bulgarian, and Turkish fighter jets after a bomb threat was received, reported the Bulgarian Air Force on their Facebook page Tuesday. The airplane landed successfully in Turkey with all passengers and crewmembers intact.
This was the latest in a series of bomb threats that forced NATO member countries to deploy fighter jets performing air policing.
The Bulgarian crews acted in a timely manner and in strict compliance with national and international law on aviation control and air policing to ensure the safety of this country's population, the Defence Ministry said.
