site.btaBudget Revised for Stryker Combat Vehicle Acquisition

The Council of Ministers approved amendments to an investment project for the acquisition of major combat equipment for the establishment of battalion-sized battlegroups within a mechanized infantry brigade, which was approved by the National Assembly in November 2023, the government's press service reported, covering the ministers' weekly meeting on Wednesday.

The changes increase the project's financial parameters by less than 1% for the acquisition of 183 Stryker armoured combat vehicles, 15 logistics support vehicles and ammunition for the platforms. Following the amendment, the total value of the project rises to USD 1,393,140,192.

According to the press release, the increase is due to rising inflation, higher administrative and transport costs, increased prices for certain raw materials, electronic components and optical equipment required for the production of the combat vehicles and their assemblies. The government also cited revised personnel training requirements for the introduction of the new equipment as a significant contributing factor.

The government also authorized the Defence Minister to negotiate and sign amendments to the international agreements on the acquisition of Stryker combat vehicles and Javelin anti-tank guided missiles, subject to subsequent ratification by Parliament.
