MPs are discussing on Thursday the draft rules of procedure of the 52nd National Assembly.

Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova said that the Parliament’s Council of Chairpersons had agreed that the rules should be reviewed chapter by chapter.

Last week, the ad hoc parliamentary rules committee adopted the proposed rules governing the work of the National Assembly.

The proposed amendments envisage reducing the time allocated for MPs’ rejoinders and shortening deadlines for the consideration of bills in parliamentary committees and in plenary hall.

The committee also approved a proposal allowing the Prime Minister, deputy prime ministers and ministers to postpone replies to parliamentary questions an unlimited number of times. Until now, replies could be postponed no more than twice.

The amendments also envisage reducing the number of standing parliamentary committees from 25 to 24. Temporary committees would be established by the National Assembly upon proposal by the Parliament Chair or one fifth of MPs, equal to 48 lawmakers.
