The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) party welcomes measures proposed by Progressive Bulgaria (PB) as initial steps in the right direction, MRF lawmaker Atije Alieva-Veli said at a briefing on Monday, adding that her party is also preparing its own proposals.
“We are witnessing a paradox in which agricultural producers receive the lowest share of profits and added value, while consumer prices are becoming increasingly unaffordable,” Alieva-Veli said.
According to her, the package of measures should focus on supporting Bulgarian producers, tackling speculative price rises, and introducing social support measures.
Alieva-Veli said PB’s proposals include expanding the powers of the Commission on Protection of Competition and the Commission for Consumer Protection, as well as increasing sanctions.
PB MP Yavor Gechev said at a briefing that his party had submitted two draft laws to parliament aimed at tackling unfair trade practices. One of the bills proposes amendments to the Protection of Competition Act, while the other targets changes to the Consumer Protection Act.
