President Iliana Iotova is expected to present the first exploratory mandate to form a government on Thursday. After consultations with the parliamentary groups ended on Tuesday, Iotova said she would present the mandate at 5 pm on May 7.

Several issues stood out in the meetings as key priorities for the political forces: the budget, judicial reform and payments under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. “The top priorities are shared. The common view was that work should start with a six-month budget that would halt the inflationary spiral and support the most vulnerable and socially disadvantaged,” Iotova said at the time.

Under the Constitution, after consultations with the parliamentary groups, the President assigns a candidate for prime minister named by the largest parliamentary group to form a government.
