There are problems on the southeastern bypass of Plovdiv, but they are solvable, said caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Naydenov, speaking to journalists on Thursday about the repair of the bypass of Bulgaria's second-largest city.

The minister was in Parvenets, Plovdiv Region to inspect the repair of a local third-class road. The Mayor of Rodopi Municipality, Pavel Mihaylov, was also present at the inspection.

Naydenov commented: "There is an objective problem [on the southeastern bypass of Plovdiv] related to poor geology already noted in the project documentation, which was commissioned and submitted to the Road Infrastructure Agency by Plovdiv Municipality. In other words, Plovdiv Municipality bears responsibility for this project documentation for the 4-kilometre section."

The minister added that the Road Infrastructure Agency is aware of the issue and is expected to provide an answer on what measures will be taken and what the cost will be.

The Mayor of Rodopi Municipality explained that all drivers who need to make a left turn towards Yagodovo and Katunitsa will find it difficult to do so without a traffic light. According to him, an overpass is necessary to finally resolve the problem.
