The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is constantly monitoring global developments with regard to international military conflicts, said caretaker Minister Nadezhda Neynsky at a briefing with caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov on Friday. Neynsky assured that appropriate measures are taken when necessary.
She said that the Foreign Ministry's Situation Centre is in constant operation. During periods of crisis, a crisis centre is established within the centre, which specifically operates in crisis situations. It constantly gathers information and communicates with Bulgarian citizens around the world who are not connected to the relevant conflict zones, the Minister explained.
Prime Minister Gurov said that since 2003, significant steps have been taken at the Situation Centre to ensure that staff have the resources to assist Bulgarian citizens. In his words, a tremendous job has been done there. Gurov announced that as early as this week, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold a meeting with those involved in the operation to evacuate citizens from the Middle East to determine what additional measures and resources are needed to ensure the operation's success.
In response to a question about Bulgarian citizens in Cuba, Gurov stated that there are not many Bulgarian citizens there, not because they face any threat but because the country's economic situation is such that there is a shortage of electricity, basic services, and goods.
When asked about her work with Nickolay Mladenov, who is the High Representative of the Board of Peace for Gaza, Neynsky said that she has met with him and that they have a very good dialogue. The two exchanged views on a number of issues. She also said that she had held talks with all the foreign ministers of the Gulf states, as well as with Greece, Turkiye, and Cyprus. She assured that the Foreign Ministry is in constant contact in the search for the best solutions that, in the current geopolitical situation, will help position Bulgaria in the resolution of crisis situations.
Gurov and Neynsky participated in a ceremony honouring Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees with awards for their significant contribution to the successful organization of the operation to evacuate Bulgarian citizens from the Middle East.
