The General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) will be the communication and coordination point for cybercrime related to terrorism in Bulgaria, after Parliament voted on first reading Thursday to amend the Ministry of Interior Act.

The revisions were proposed by three MPs of GERB-UDF.

The bill provides for measures to implement Regulation (EU) 2021/784 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2021 on addressing the dissemination of terrorist content online. It sets in place EU-wide rules for dealing with hosting service malpractices for distributing terrorist content online.

Hosting service providers who do not follow the regulation face fines of EUR 1,000 to EUR 6,000.

After the bill was approved at first reading, the MPs started second-reading debate but the sitting ended before they took a conclusive vote.
