Unemployed people registered with employment offices will help municipalities with preliminary cleaning of river beds to prevent floods, said outgoing Minister of Labour and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov at a briefing here on Thursday. According to him, this will reduce unemployment and help municipalities. People with disabilities can also be hired.
The activities are part of the Employment without Barriers measure with a budget of EUR 40 million. The programme will start in less than a month, Gutsanov said. The pay will be one minimum wage for those without higher education and one minimum wage plus 50% for university graduates, he specified.
The programme was prompted by the October 3 deadly flood in Elenite, said Donka Mihaylova, Mayor of Troyan and Deputy Chair of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria.
