Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova met with Cypriot Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna in Brussels on Monday, her Ministry said on Tuesday. The meeting took place on the eve of the six-month Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, beginning January 12026, and included an exchange of views on priority topics on the EU agenda.
Both sides noted that the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as shared positions on several issues on the European agenda, provide a very good foundation for cooperation during the Cypriot EU Presidency.
The discussions covered the Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2028–2034 and EU enlargement policy, which are priority topics for the Cypriot Presidency.
Deputy Minister Shekerletova stressed that Bulgaria is an active supporter of the EU enlargement policy, which should be based on the principle of merit and the established methodology, including the principle of decision-making by consensus.
